Friday 27 December

Book today
Blow the cobwebs off and get out in the fresh air after Christmas!

Take a guided tour around the village of Great Missenden with our expert guide Michael. He’ll show you some of the places that inspired the books, including Matilda’s library and Sophie’s orphanage from The BFG. While you wander, he’ll read some wintry extracts from the books. Head back to the Museum to warm up, where you’ll find a hot drink and mince pie waiting for you.

For age 5 and over.
£10 per person in addition to Museum entry, drink and mince pie included in the price

Walk route

The walk leads you out of the Museum along pavements past the old, characterful buildings of Great Missenden. We stop to look at buildings which inspired the stories, and gather at Matilda’s library on the High Street. We visit the storytelling chair on the playing field and then head up to the Church of St Peter and St Paul’s, which dates back to the 14th Century and is the final resting place of Roald Dahl.  Then we’ll head back to the Museum for some much needed food and drink.

The walk lasts about 45 t0 50 minutes.

Food and drink

We’ll have tea and coffee waiting at the Museum for you on your return. You can also help yourself to a mince pie. Kids can choose from squash or hot chocolate and pick a sweet treat. If you have any dietary requirements, please email us at hello@roalddahlmuseum.org..
