New mural project launches
By The Roald Dahl Museum
Artist appointed for new mural project inspired by Roald Dahl at Great Missenden station
The Roald Dahl Museum has appointed artist Solveig Eva Magnusdottir to work with them on a creative project funded by the Chiltern Railways Community Investment Fund. The project will see Solveig work with sixth form students from the local secondary school in Great Missenden, The Misbourne, to produce a mural at Great Missenden railway station.
Project inspiration
Students will work with Solveig to help shape the direction of the project. Over two workshops the students will explore the village of Great Missenden with Solveig and Museum staff will give them insight into Roald Dahl’s local links and how he used the local landscape as a source of inspiration. Ideas generated here will feed into the mural design, which is scheduled to be unveiled in March 2025.
Real-world experience
To kick-off the project, students worked with Museum staff to interview prospective artists on a special day at the Museum. They took part in artist-led workshops and sat on interview panels. One of the main aims of the project is to give the students real-world experiences outside of the classroom, such as project management and interview technique.
