Strike a power pose with Matilda, come face-to-face with Fantastic Mr Fox, and discover Roald Dahl’s famous Writing Hut, the birthplace of your favourite characters.

The Museum features three interactive galleries as well as a drop-in craft room. You are free to explore and come and go as you please on the day of your visit.

We encourage adults and children to get stuck in and have a go in a family-friendly environment.

We recommend allowing at least 90 minutes to explore the Museum, however many of our visitors stay longer!

Storytelling takes place on selected weekend days and during the Buckinghamshire school holidays.

Our storytelling sessions are free with Museum entry and are very popular. They are fun, full of energy and run by our trained Museum team. We change our storytelling throughout the year so you’ll hear a range of extracts from Roald Dahl’s books.

We run workshops and activities throughout the year, usually in the school holidays. These range from storytelling to led craft workshops. Some of these are free, but some incur an additional charge to cover materials and staff time.

Please note that no dogs – except assistance dogs – are allowed in the Museum, Shop, Café or courtyard at any time.

Canny Cafe run a courtyard cafe at the Museum on Saturdays, Sundays and in Buckinghamshire school holidays.

They serve a great selection of hot and cold drinks, lunches, snacks and sweet treats. There’s indoor and outdoor seating available.

Yes, you’re welcome to bring a picnic to the Museum. We have limited indoor and outdoor seating available, but do be aware this can get full during busy times such as half-term holidays.

There is a large park nearby (the Buryfield) if you fancy having your picnic outside of the Museum.

The Museum is mostly a step-free site and has two accessible loos. There is a lift to our upper floor.

We have a baby change and a buggy park (but you are welcome to use your buggy in the galleries if you’d prefer).

Children need to be accompanied by an adult (over 18) at all times during a visit to the Museum. This includes during workshop and storytelling sessions, but don’t worry, we think you’ll find it just as fun as the kids!

The Museum is a short walk from the Link Road car park. This is a pay and display cark park which can be found at HP16 9AE.

You can also park in the station car park off Station Approach.

Chiltern Railway services operate from Great Missenden station to London Marylebone and Aylesbury.

Carousel Buses operate between Great Missenden and High Wycombe.

Online bookings can be made in advance or on the day of your visit. At busy times, such as half-term holidays, certain entry slots and workshops may sell out, so we do recommend booking ahead with plenty of time.

If you’re having trouble booking online, please see our Online Booking FAQs. Our phone line can get very busy during peak times, so please book online if you can.

You can book same day tickets online or at the ticket desk, subject to availability.

If you haven’t pre-booked, tickets can be purchased on the door; we usually have the best availability in the afternoon. If the Museum is busy when you arrive, we may have to ask you to come back later.

Please note, we can’t always guarantee on-the-door availability during peak times such as school holidays.

When you book in advance, you’ll select an arrival time slot; please aim to arrive during this time slot if possible, to help us spread out visitors throughout the day. Once here, you will be able to enjoy the Museum for the rest of the day.

Our ticket prices are £9.95 for adults and children aged 5 or over. Under 5s are free. Registered carers are free.

We also offer some discounted prices for the following:

People aged 65 and over £7.95
Full time students aged 18 and over £7.95
People who are registered disabled £7.95

Your ticket is valid for a whole year, so you can come back and visit us as many times as you like. If you’re a UK taxpayer, you can help us out even more by applying Gift Aid to your ticket at no extra cost.

If you have a valid 2 for 1 voucher, Golden/Gift Ticket or similar offer for Museum entry you can book in advance by calling us on 01494 892192 (booking line open Mon-Fri), or you can buy your tickets at the ticket desk on the day of arrival. Please bring the voucher or proof of your discount with you on the day of your visit.

If you have have a Blue Peter Badge you can book this online using the option in the ticketing system. Please bring the badge and ID card with you on the day.

Yes, if you’re booking your General Admission tickets online, you can add tickets for any workshops, walks or events happening that day to your booking; you’ll be given the option once you’ve added your General Admission tickets to your basket.

If you’ve already booked your General Admission tickets but would like to add tickets for a workshop, walk or event to your booking, you’ll need to call us on 01494 892 192.

Please select the carer ticket option on the booking pages. These tickets are for registered carers only, please bring proof with you to show at the ticket desk on arrival.

We strongly recommend booking online if possible, as our phone line can get very busy during peak times. If you’re having trouble booking online and are unable to resolve your query using these FAQs, please call us on 01494 892 192.

Our booking line is open Monday-Friday; we may be unable to take ticket bookings over the phone on weekends.

All Museum entry tickets will grant you repeat visits to the Museum for 12 months.
